Understand Your Spike Antibody Response
The SARS-COV-2 ANTIBODY PROFILE — SPIKE & NUCLEOCAPSID provides a semi-quantitative measurement of antibodies directed against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein receptor-binding domain. It offers valuable insight into your antibody response following COVID-19 vaccination, previous infection or a combination of both.
Unlike a simple positive-or-negative antibody screening, this profile provides a numerical spike-antibody result and includes nucleocapsid antibody testing for additional context.
What This Test Measures
- Spike Protein Antibodies: Measures antibodies targeting the spike protein receptor-binding domain and provides a semi-quantitative result.
- Nucleocapsid Antibodies: Evaluates for antibody evidence consistent with a previous natural SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Why Is Nucleocapsid Testing Included?
Spike antibodies may develop following vaccination, natural infection or both. Nucleocapsid antibodies are generally associated with previous natural infection.
Evaluating both markers provides a more complete picture of your antibody history and helps place your spike-antibody result into better context.
What You May Learn
- Whether spike antibodies are currently detectable
- Your semi-quantitative spike-antibody level
- Whether your antibody pattern includes evidence consistent with previous natural infection
- Additional information to discuss with your healthcare provider alongside your vaccination and infection history
Labcorp Blood Collection
This test requires a standard blood draw at a participating Labcorp location.
- Sample: Serum
- Method: Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECLIA)
- Typical laboratory processing time: 1–3 days after specimen collection or receipt
TEST PREPARATION
No fasting or special dietary preparation is required. You may eat, drink, and take your usual medications and supplements unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.
This test requires a blood draw at a Labcorp location. After receiving your laboratory requisition by email, bring it along with a valid photo ID to your selected location. Scheduling an appointment is recommended.
If testing after a recent COVID-19 infection, vaccination, or booster, allow approximately three weeks for antibodies to develop. This antibody panel is not intended to diagnose an active COVID-19 infection.
Important Information
This test measures antibodies against the spike protein. It does not detect or measure circulating spike protein itself.
Spike-antibody levels should not be interpreted as a direct measurement of immunity, protection against future infection, vaccine effectiveness or the need for vaccination. This test cannot diagnose or exclude an active COVID-19 infection.
A negative result does not completely rule out previous infection because antibodies may not yet have developed, may decline over time or may not become detectable in some individuals.
Results should be evaluated together with your medical history, vaccination history, previous infections, symptoms and other relevant clinical findings.
Regulatory Notice
The SARS-CoV-2 spike-antibody assay has not been FDA cleared or approved. It has been authorized by the FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization for detecting antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and not for detecting antibodies against other viruses or pathogens. Authorization remains subject to the applicable EUA declaration and may be terminated or revoked.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This test is intended for informational and wellness purposes. Results are estimates based on epigenetic patterns and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Always discuss medical concerns and significant health decisions with a qualified healthcare professional.
Crisis Box Direct Lab provides administrative access to laboratory testing and educational information. Crisis Box Direct Lab is not a clinical laboratory and does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, result interpretation, or emergency medical services.
When required, an independent licensed healthcare provider may authorize the laboratory order through Evexia Diagnostics. This authorization is limited to facilitating the laboratory order and does not constitute a medical consultation or establish ongoing medical care.
Testing is performed by the independent laboratory identified on the requisition and final report. Laboratory results must be interpreted together with your symptoms, medical history, medications, and other relevant clinical information. An abnormal result does not independently establish a diagnosis, and a result within the reference range does not exclude a medical condition.
Do not begin, discontinue, or change any medication, supplement, diet, or treatment based solely on these results. Discuss results and health concerns with a qualified healthcare provider. This service should not be used for emergencies or urgent symptoms.
